How To Make Frozen Yogurt: The Simplest, Easiest Method

I decided on the most straightforward method possible and went with my tried-and-true vanilla base. It took me less time than expected — only an hour or so from start to Finish — but it still required some patience. If you want to make your homemade version, here is how I did it.

Ingredients

1 cup heavy whipping cream2 cups whole milk3/4 teaspoon kosher salt

Six large egg yolks

The first thing you need is some plain Greek or regular whole milk yogurt. You can use store-bought yogurt here too, but homemade will give your yogurt a better texture. If you’re using low-fat yogurt, make sure to add enough sugar so that the final product has at least 4 grams per serving. This helps prevent the yogurt from becoming grainy after freezing.

The key here is to add enough cream so that the mixture has a nice smooth texture once frozen. If you have trouble getting the proper ratio, try starting with half milk and half cream; if you still need help, start with two parts milk and one part cream. Once you’ve got the perfect balance between dairy and sweetener, you’ll know exactly how many tablespoons of sugar you should add per cup of yogurt.

Next up, you’ll want to freeze the yogurt overnight. and a Little Cream

The first step is to thicken up the yogurt so that it doesn’t run off the sides of the container as soon as you start freezing it. This means adding a little bit of milk or cream to the mixture before freezing. If you don’t add anything extra, you’ll wind up with a very thick, almost custard like texture. But if you add enough dairy, you should have no trouble getting a nice smooth consistency.

The Best Container for Freezing Fro-Yo

I tried both versions—with and without whole milk—and they were equally delicious. But I did find myself preferring the latter. It had a slightly deeper flavor, and the texture wasn’t quite so icy. Feel free to add a little sugar to either version if you like yours on the sweeter side.

The other trick? Use low-fat yogurt instead of full-fat. This will help keep things smooth and prevent them from being overly icy.

Peanut Butter Frozen Yogurt

Peanut butter has been around forever, but recently, everyone wants to try their hands at peanut butter recipes. Peanut Butter Frozen Yogurt is no exception. It’s easy to whip up and tastes delicious. Plus, it makes a perfect dessert for those who love chocolate too.

I’ve been obsessed with cinnamon lately, which means I’ve had lots of fun experimenting with different ways to incorporate it into recipes. Here, apples add such a nice sweetness while still maintaining their crispness.
