Let’s provoke the creepiness within us.

Where are the scariest places to spend Halloween?

It’s a question that many people have asked over the years.
The answer is, of course, different depending on who you ask and what they’re looking at. But there are some obvious choices: haunted houses, dark forests or caves – but also more unusual locations such as abandoned buildings, old castles, prisons, or even hospitals!

Haunted house

Halloween may be all about dressing up in costumes and going trick-or-treating with your friends, but we think there’s something much scarier than that. A real ghost story can make any night seem spookier, especially when you have an eerie place like a creepy castle or deserted building to explore. And while most haunted attractions will cost money to get into, sometimes you can go free just by walking through their doors. If you don’t fancy paying admission fees, why not check out these ten free haunts around London instead.

Dark forest

There’s nothing quite like spending Halloween in the middle of nowhere. You might see other people dressed up too – but they won’t know anything about you. You could wander off alone, exploring the woods and finding new things along the way. It’s easy to lose track of time when you’re lost in nature, so bring plenty of food and water.
Plus, you never know how long you’ll be able to keep away from civilization before someone finds you. If you do get caught, remember always to tell them exactly where you were last seen.

Prisons

Prison cells tend to look pretty grimy and dingy, which makes sense since they usually contain criminals. But did you know that prison cell walls used to be made of stone?! So maybe try visiting one during Halloween weekend to experience life behind bars first hand. You probably wouldn’t want to visit a maximum security facility, though, unless you wanted to meet some very dangerous inmates. And given that prisoners aren’t allowed outside, you’d need to sneak inside somehow.

Castles

We love getting scared in big, empty spaces. They give us goosebumps because we feel completely exposed and vulnerable. Plus, being surrounded by ancient architecture gives you lots of opportunities to jump out of bed screaming. Why not take advantage of one of the oldest castles in the USA.

Bizarre location

Sometimes you need somewhere strange to escape to. Whether it’s a hospital, asylum, or insane asylum, these bizarre locations offer visitors a chance to step into another world. For instance, the Shropshire Union Canal Museum is home to the most extensive collection of canal boats ever assembled. The museum also has its narrowboat, complete with original Victorian furniture and decorations. Visitors can even sleep overnight on board!

Old school theme park

When was the last time you went to Disneyland? Or Disney World? Well, now you can recreate those magical experiences at a different kind of theme park. These parks feature rides based on classic movies, TV shows, video games, comic books, toys,
cartoons, music… basically everything under the sun. There’s no shortage of options either; many parks boast over 100 rides. What’s great about these kinds of themed entertainment centers is that they often include hotel accommodation. This means you can come back every day and enjoy all the fun without having to worry about picking up after yourself. Some hotels even let guests dress up in costume and join in the festivities. What better excuse to wear your favorite superhero outfit?

Museum

If you’re looking for something more unusual than an amusement park, why not check out one of America’s museums instead? From art galleries to natural history collections, there’s bound to be something here that will make you scream. And if you want to scare yourself silly, then head straight to the basement. Many museums have creepy displays down there – including the infamous “Mannequin Challenge” display at The National Civil War Naval Hospital Museum.
